The Issue
Beverage production is an energy intensive process which involves substantial natural gas use to produce steam for processing and cleaning. Steam systems have the potential to operate at up to 90 percent efficiency but typically operate around 55 to 60 percent efficiency. A large portion of energy, approximately 18 percent, is lost when superheated gases leave the boiler exhaust stack. Many boiler systems utilize economizers to recover this energy, however the Recipient's facility currently does not have any economizers and so is exhausting all waste gases at high temperature (between 280°F – 380°F)
Project Innovation
The purpose of this agreement is to install a condensing heat recovery system at the Recipient's beverage production facility. The project will reduce emissions by utilizing the waste heat from the boiler stacks and displacing that energy by preheating boiler make up water and process water.
Project Benefits

Environmental Sustainability
This project is expected to reduce natural gas by 134,139 therms per year and reduce GHG emissions by 743 MT CO2e per year.
