Demonstration & Deployment of Nelumbo’s Ice-Nein Evaporator Coating

Nelumbo, Inc. has developed Ice-Nein™, an advanced coating for refrigeration coils to reduce energy during refrigeration defrost cycle. The surface modification utilizes an advanced nano-structured ceramic coating to (1) reduce the onset of frost formation, (2) slow the rate of frost growth, and (3) enhance the removal of frost. The proposed project’s goal is to advance the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of an innovative advanced coating technology that improves the efficiency of industrial refrigeration systems from TRL 7 through TRL 9. During this process, the technology will be taken from a system prototype that has been demonstrated at near commercial scale, through demonstration and validation at commercial via a full scale pilot demonstration at Daylight Foods, and then be made available to customers.
