The Issue

Refrigeration systems that use R-22 as a refrigerant and are prone to high leakage rates, causing high levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

Project Innovation

This project will replace two spiral freezer refrigeration systems with a transcritical CO2 refrigeration system, eliminating R-22 refrigerant from the facility. The transcritical CO2 system will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the high leak potential of R-22 refrigerant from the facility.

Project Benefits

Environmental & Public Health

Environmental Sustainability

This project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3,248 MT CO2e/year and save 365,000 gallons/year of water.
